SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS
Awarded by Morehart Murphy Regional Auto Center
 

Award Amount: $1,000 renewable (1 year) to the student’s choice school for any auto mechanic program. 

The scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient’s school of choice to apply to tuition, fees, books, equipment, and other supplies required in the coursework. The ideal school will be certified by ASE or an equivalent program and will have a track record of preparing students for careers as skilled apprentices in the workforce.

This award is made possible by the owners of the Morehart Murphy Regional Auto Center and is administered by the Durango Education Foundation. Recipients will be selected by the DEF Scholarship Committee in conjunction with representative(s) of Morehart Murphy Regional Auto Center. Finalists may be interviewed before a final decision. 
 

ELIGIBILITY AND REQUIREMENTS
This award supports a student graduating from Durango School District 9-R high school (or another program as approved by the donor) and intending to pursue post-secondary education to become a light truck and automotive technician. The winning candidate will demonstrate a strong interest in the field and showcase integrity, a good work ethic, and a willingness to learn.

To be eligible, students must:

  • Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0

  • Have attended at least two (2) years in any Durango 9-R High School Program


INDIVIDUAL SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS

  1. A COMPLETE APPLICATION

  2. Academic Transcript: 2.0 minimum GPA

    • ​A complete senior transcript showing sustained GPA may be required before the award is remitted to the student’s choice of college.

  3. Statement of Financial Need

    • Please share anything about your family financial situation and/or your financial situation that will help us understand your need for college scholarship assistance. (approximately 250 words)

  4. TWO Letters of Recommendation:

    • #1: From a teacher

    • #2: From an employer

  5. #1 College and Career Essay:

    • What are your education and career goals? What makes you passionate about this future path? What have you done, so far, to pursue these future goals? What will you be doing 1 and 5 years after college graduation? (600 words maximum)
